Why it’s hot right now
Med spas perform medical procedures — injectables, lasers, prescriptions — but there is no federal med spa statute. None. Who's qualified to hold the needle is left to a patchwork of state boards that don't break med spas out as their own category.
The FDA issued its first-ever DSCSA warning letter to a med spa dispenser. After years of a federal vacuum, enforcement has started — and the industry has no national trust standard to point to.
SB 351 (effective Jan 1, 2026) bans private-equity-controlled management companies from making clinical decisions at med spas. Writing that into law is a quiet admission that money was steering medical calls until someone stopped it.
AB 890 created a path to independent NP practice, but the Board of Registered Nursing still cannot certify a fully independent (104) NP. Every spa marketing one is, factually, ahead of the law.
The angle for a national desk
Med spas are the fastest-growing corner of aesthetic medicine, and the same gap sits under all of it: a medical procedure sold like a blowout, with no national standard for who’s qualified to perform it. New York hasn’t been mapped yet. Neither has anywhere else. California is the proof of concept, not the story’s edge.

The founder
Donna built GlowRanked and Aura solo. A first-generation American and a neurodivergent founder, she started the way a lot of people start choosing a med spa: vetting them by hand for friends and family, because nobody else would. Then she taught an AI to do it at the scale of a whole state.
She is the human in the loop on every verification, and she holds the line where it costs her: she deleted hundreds of her own listings the moment they turned out not to be real medical practices. The register got smaller. It also got true.
